Postdoctoral Research Fellow Jobs Vacancy at Soas University London London Jobs Details:

The School of Oriental and African Studies is appointing a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the work of the London International Development Centre’s Migration Leadership Team (LIDC-MLT), a research and advisory body supported by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The LIDC-MLT aims to develop a strategy informing ESRC-AHRC migration and displacement funding that builds on existing achievements, addresses persistent gaps, and speaks to relevance in policy, practice, and/or public engagement and awareness. The project entails extensive engagement with global and national policymakers, practitioners and academics. It seeks to ensure that the strategy is forward looking, anticipating areas in which information is likely to be needed to help frame policy responses and involves key stakeholders to ensure that the Councils' agenda reflects a global consensus. The post-holder will lead the day-to-day research activities linked to the project and work with the PI and Co-Is to develop and inform the strategic direction of migration-related research in the UK, Europe and globally. The post holder will work closely with staff of the research councils and other stakeholders to review funding portfolios of migration-related projects and achieved impacts. S/he will also be involved in organising a series of ‘Global Migration Conversations’ with stakeholders and assist in producing written outputs.
The LIDC-MLT is composed of PI Dr Laura Hammond (SOAS University of London), Co-Investigators Professor Kavita Datta (Queen Mary University London) and Dr Elaine Chase (UCL-Institute of Education). A project coordinator (part-time) will also be based at SOAS (to be recruited).

Skills and experience

The post holder should have a PhD in a social science or humanities field, and must have research expertise related to migration or displacement. He/she must have extensive experience of conducting qualitative research; experience of liaising and networking with high level stakeholders at national and international levels; knowledge and experience of ethical procedures and guidelines in research and of securing ethical clearance for research. Experience in project or programme management and organising and facilitating high level stakeholder events are desirable. The post holder should have strong communication skills, be able to work well both independently and in a group, be able to manage work effectively and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
