Speech and Language Assistant – Potterspury Lodge and Bletchley Park

£19,500 Pro Rata

Role: Speech and Language Therapy Assistant
Permanent: Term Time (From 20 hours per week)

Cambian Bletchley Park School is an independent specialist school, offering 38-week day placements for students aged 7-19 years with autism, communication difficulties, challenging behaviour and related conditions or diagnoses.

Cambian Potterspury Lodge School is a 38 week residential school for young people aged 8-18 who have a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome, challenging behaviour and complex needs.

Interest in communication and has worked with children previously, preferably with young people with special needs. Must have basic IT skills.

The Role of Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

To contribute to the delivery of therapeutic activities appropriate to students’ needs choices and interests under the supervision and guidance of the senior Speech and Language Therapist (SLT).

To assist the Speech and Language Therapists in the day to day duties and running of the department.

To support and encourage students with their therapeutic activity/intervention goals and report back on their progress, liaising with the SLTs, Clinical Services team and other members of the school team where necessary.

Summary of Responsibilities

To work collaboratively with the SLTs to deliver evidence-based therapeutic activities/interventions that support the development of students’ communication skills in learning, working, socialising, promoting independence and choice at all times.
Communicate to others the purpose and aim of both individual and group therapeutic activities/interventions where required.
Maintain full and accurate records of daily engagement with students.
To provide written and/or verbal feedback to the senior SLT on the students’ progress and presentation within activities, including collection of outcome measure data.
To create and maintain recommended resources for individual students.
Ensure all equipment / tools / materials used for therapeutic activities/interventions are maintained in a safe and proper condition and appropriately risk assessed.
Assist in developing links in the community to services which will assist in meeting the students’ needs and promote social inclusion where required.
To attend and participate in staff and student meetings where requested.
Report and document any changes in a student’s presentation (e.g. physical health, mental state, emotional state etc.) throughout the timetable.
Participate in agreed systems of appraisal and individual performance review with line manager regarding review and development of own role.
To attend and actively participate in regular on-site SLT and Clinical Services team meetings to review and develop the delivery of the service.
To attend all training sessions as required and to provide training when required.

To attend for work reliably and punctually and to follow a work pattern as required to fulfil the role which may include working overtime if the need arises.
To know where to access Cambian Group policies, to keep yourself up to date with all procedures and policy changes and to be aware of and follow their contents
To remain vigilant and do everything possible to protect individuals in our care and others from abuse of a physical, emotional, sexual, neglectful, financial or institutional nature. This includes an absolute requirement to manage/investigate any incident of this nature you witness that is brought to your attention or suspect.
To develop own practice through the supervision and appraisal process, ensuring your continuous professional development needs are identified and addressed.
