Job Title: Admissions and Transport Officers
Location: County Hall, Hertford
Salary Range: £21,693.00 - £23,866 pa (pro rata for part-time)
Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Variable (1 Permanent, 2 Fixed-Term Contracts)

Job Duties:

  • 1 permanent contract
  • 1 fixed term/secondment opportunity covering maternity until July 2019
  • 1 fixed term/secondment opportunity covering maternity until September 2019

Our Schools Admissions and Transport Team co-ordinate admissions to all maintained schools and academies, dealing with around 45,000 applications each year. They ensure that all Hertfordshire children have access to suitable educational provision and, where appropriate, home-to-school transport.

This role involves inputting and processing applications, providing support and guidance to parents, schools, professionals and managing case work.

You will have excellent communication skills to support and advise parents/carers and work with professionals and other agencies. You will be confident, diplomatic and calm in sensitive situations (including discussing children’s disabilities or special needs with parents/carers) and resilient when dealing with complex complaints and issues.

Being organised and methodical will enable you to work to tight statutory and/or corporate deadlines without compromising on quality. You will have experience of delivering high standards of customer service within a pressurised environment and be a strong team player with an adaptable and flexible approach to working in various teams within the department when required.

You must be a proficient IT user - word processing, spread-sheets, databases and email, with good problem solving and analytical skills to produce and manipulate statistics and reports. You will be educated to minimum A Level or equivalent, with a minimum GCSE Grade C in English and Maths or able to demonstrate equivalent level of achievement through work experience. Knowledge of legislation of school admissions and education administration would be an advantage.

Please be aware this is primarily an office based role with the majority of your time working administratively, however there may be occasional visits to schools and other meetings across Hertfordshire.
