This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team undertaking intelligence gathering for a number of illegal waste activities. The team work closely with a range of law enforcement agencies creating a ‘big picture’ response to illegal activity. You will take an active role in detecting, monitoring, planning and undertaking disruption interventions at a number of high risk waste sites across the country.
The successful applicant will also liaise with other law enforcement agencies, the shipping sector and waste sites where shipping containers are returned as a result of our crack down on illegal waste export activity.
You will be critical to the success of the team and be expected to work to deadlines and support colleagues across the country, producing high quality intelligence logs and briefing packs. You will be supporting Area colleagues to achieve effective results and putting a stop to some of the most established illegal waste crime sites across the country. You will form part of a highly professional team of intelligence practitioners, dedicated to becoming a ‘centre of excellence’, committed to providing tactical and strategic support, helping to share ideas and improve how we work together and achieve the most as one business.
Responsible in developing of all intelligence to direct and support the Environment Agency’s intelligence strategy, DEFRA funded projects and selected major investigations.
Support the provision of a comprehensive intelligence picture to lead, influence, direct and inform management’s decision-making process and enable effective targeting of resources in efficient, timely and costly manner.
Supporting our intelligence led approach to reduce, prevent and dismantle serious and organised environmental crime at an Area, National and international level.
• Self-motivated and have the ability to work with minimum supervision or as part of a team.
• Communicates in a clear and concise manner, with the ability to present to large groups of people
• Good written communication skills, with the ability to prepare operational briefings to a high standard.
• Effective problem solving skills and an inquisitive mind.
• The ability to prioritise workloads, work under pressure and use their initiative.
• Computer literate with good IT skills.
• Working knowledge of RIPA (Regulation Investigatory Powers Act 2000) and other intelligence legislation, stated cases and protocols.
• Working knowledge of law enforcement techniques and practices including court procedures and disclosure issues.
Contact and additional information
This is a national team, geographically dispersed so the applicant will require a full driving licence and the ability to travel nationally, with occasional overnight stays. The Intelligence department is based at Solihull in the West Midlands, therefor occasional attendance will be required at that location.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake SC vetting.
This vacancy is predominantly to cover the London Area (specifically within the M25 Corridor). However the successful candidate will be part of a national team and will be deployed where resources are required.
