The Voluntary Services team currently supports over a thousand volunteers across the trust and its affiliated charitable groups, coordinating the recruitment & training of all new volunteers and maintaining the welfare of our existing team of valued volunteers.

Due to a successful funding bid, the voluntary services team have the opportunity to drive forward improvements to our existing volunteering programme, in collaboration with other Trusts over the next year. This will give us the opportunity to test new systems or ways of working to showcase good-practice and our learning with other NHS trusts.

The project funding will also enable us to support a high-profile trust campaign; ‘Eat, Drink, Move, which will see us upping our recruitment drives to involve many more volunteers to support patient wellbeing.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term basis and can be considered for a prospective secondment opportunity. The post-holder will be an integral member of the team, releasing existing staff time to deliver the broader remit of the project.

This post will assume responsibility for the interviewing of prospective volunteers for positions across the spectrum of our volunteering opportunities, progressing all new starters through ‘pre-employment’ checks and ensuring compliance with trust policies. The role will also be responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering training for volunteers.

The successful candidate will therefore need exceptional ‘people-skills’ with the ability to respond to prospective volunteers in a welcoming and timely manner and deliver informative presentations about our volunteering offer.

Due to the short time frame of the funding, the candidate will be required to quickly pick-up a high volume of volunteering applications using various recruitment tools, including the TRAC recruitment system and embrace the opportunity to organise and deliver volunteer training and support of our existing volunteers on a daily basis. Exceptional computer skills and ability are therefore also required.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with existing knowledge of recruitment systems and/or a background in recruitment and training to join our small but friendly team, and to widen their experience through branching into the Volunteer Management field.

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited. UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
