The staff experience is high on our agenda and we have a dedicated theatre education team to facilitate your clinical and professional development in a supportive and stimulating learning environment.
We are looking to recruit experienced scrub theatre practitioners in trauma & orthopaedics. Our theatres continually demonstrate ongoing excellence of patient care and are fundamentally about helping people to get well.
You need to have a commitment to developing others and support the theatre department’s management structure. This post will enable the successful applicants the opportunity to further develop their scrub and leadership expertise in what is a demanding area of complex adult and paediatric trauma & orthopaedic surgery. As the unit develops further an early adopter of change for innovative working will be required. The successful post holders will be required to cover a full range of shifts to include early, late, nights, on-call and weekends in support of our service commitments 24/7.
We have 8 dedicated trauma and orthopaedics theatres daily which includes paediatric orthopaedics, providing both elective and emergency surgery. The trauma and orthopaedic theatre team specialises in elective hip, knee, spine, shoulder, hand and foot and ankle surgery. We are one of the leading major trauma centres in the south and we specialise in adult and paediatric major trauma, limb reconstruction with plastic surgery and pelvic and acetabular reconstruction. We are a leading research centre in the south; it is an innovative and stimulating environment; some of our pioneering works have been featured in news articles and on national television.
Applications are invited from highly skilled individuals with an interest in scrub. For the right individuals, we are also able to offer significant educational opportunities, including:
- In-house theatre and anaesthetic course (for nurses)
- Leadership development courses (foundation and intermediate management)
- University post-qualifying modules (such as mentorship, care of the deteriorating patient, leadership and management of change)
- surgical first assistants

Getting to Work
Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited. UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
