WHAT TO EXPECT
The Tooling and Pressed Parts Engineering Group (T&PPG) is responsible for sheet metal tooling programs, facilities and technologies for all JLR vehicles. This includes managing the development, manufacture and successful launch of tooling and equipment into nominated press facilities as well as providing the foundation for JLR’s drive towards best in class BIW quality and cost performance.
An integral part of this activity is the recently created Quality Group for T&PPG. These engineering roles will form the team tasked with developing and implementing the vision, strategy, methods and technologies which will drive it. As a dimensional quality engineer within the function, you’ll be responsible for developing and shape usage of scanning technologies throughout the function providing your technical expertise in relation to equipment capabilities, limitations and usage. Aspects of the role will require travel to vendor locations both UK and overseas as well as extended periods in any of the business press shops. Day to day you’ll departmental continuous improvement techniques and sheet metal variation.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
In this role, you’ll need experience within a Press Operations, Tooling background or will have spent time in an influential role in Manufacturing or a sheet metal industry. You must be able to demonstrate sound manufacturing and engineering principles. A relevant engineering degree would be ideal, although your experience will be just as important. You’ll have a proven track record in a dimensional role within a press shop or body assembly environment and be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the latest press tools and techniques for available rapid sheet metal. You’ll be proficient in the use of MS Office applications and have an understanding or ability to operate measurement equipment such as scanners and computer aided design (CAD) packages, with an option to be trained if required.
