About the Role
pladis is well known within the FMCG world for our well-loved food brands such as McVitie’s, Jacob’s and Jaffa Cakes and are recruiting for an engineering technician at our manufacturing site in Aintree, Liverpool site.
We are looking to recruit highly skilled engineering technicians based at our site in Aintree. Are you an engineering technician who is looking for a new technical challenge? Are you keen to work in a highly-automated environment?
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who is keen on being involved in continuous improvement activity, maintaining and improving process and packaging equipment and looking for a new technical challenge in a highly-automated environment. You will be required to work is based shift work (2 days 2 nights 4 off – rotating days and nights).
•To provide full Technical Engineering support to production function under the leadership of the Team Manager and by working as part of the production team
•To understand and contribute to achieving the goals of the Factory by efficiently carrying out any assigned operation or task
•The aim is to manufacture the company's product to an agreed specification in a cost effective and Safe manner.
•Take personal responsibility for health and safety
•To generate and maintain compliance to SOP’s/Risk Assessments.
•Minimise waste and re-cycle all product effectively
•Actively use on line PQE as a means of achieving quality standards and report plant performance using appropriate company systems and ensure action/communication of non-conformance issues
•Ensure operational key information is effectively communicated to colleagues and other shift teams during the shift handover procedure
•Completion of breakdown sheets and paying attention to detail
•Working on a rota basis, paperwork to be collected weekly and passed to the finance department
•Daily patrols with previous shift TC’s to check plant at shift handover
•Train, assess, coach and support ATM’s and Team members: development of basic engineering skills
•Input into team action plans and continuous improvement activities: SMED, 5S, OEE, Autonomous Maintenance TPM
•Responsible for the mechanical and electrical integrity of equipment
•Effective planned maintenance inspections as per plan
•Meantime between failure rates
•Overhaul and repair of plant
•Continually monitor plant conditions and report defects
•Deliver a consistent and improving plant reliability through the effective management and monitoring of downtime, PPM confirmation, Engineering planning and use of SAP PM/Shires and elements of the engineering budget
•Report and present all performance matters routinely, including trends and breakdown/fault area
•Act as the team champions of good engineering standards
•Carry out safety checks on equipment in line with legislation and best practice
•Ensure the permit to work (PTW) system is controlled in an effective and safe manner
•To complete operate food manufacturing equipment as and when required
Essential Experience, Skills and Qualifications
•Formal Engineering qualification to at least City & Guilds level, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a mechanical and/or electrical discipline with corresponding practical experience (essential)
•Wiring regs to current standards
•Train the Trainer course
•UB authorised person status
•Lean tools and techniques (essential to BITL2 over short term. Desirable to BITL3)
•Safety (Essential Working Safely CERT)
•Technical (Level 2 Food Safety essential)
•Power truck operation skills
•Knowledge of COSHH
•Complex machine operation skills
•Mechanical comprehension skills
•PLC skills (highly desirable)
•Electrical comprehension skills
•Fault finding skills
•Data analysis & interpretation skills
•Risk Assessment trained
•Permit to Work trained
•Ability to train effectively
•Technical report writing ability
•Full understanding of safe working practices and relevant legislation where applicable
•Experience of generic engineering equipment is essential hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC's electrical components, liquid Nitrogen storage
•Ability to clearly understand engineering drawings, symbols and notation.
