Places for People are looking for Relief Hostel Workers to join the Living+ team supporting schemes across the North East.
What your role will be
This is a great opportunity for someone who has experience working with individuals with additional needs and positively managing, influencing and diffusing challenging behaviour.
As a Relief Hostel Worker, you will work with others to ensure that residents receive the guidance and support agreed by the project accurately record information and ensure the safety of residents during their stay.
The relief hostel worker will assist in dealing with issues on a day to day basis. There will be a variety of issues often quite challenging that will arise but you will deal with these effectively supported by a framework of policy and best practice guidance.
As a member of a team of staff at the scheme, you will share responsibility for working with and supporting the service users. As staff are usually involved in working on a rota basis, good communication between staff members is essential. You will ensure all administration is up to date on a daily basis, including handover notes, communications systems and resident’s files/support plans.
Flexible hours including day and night shifts are available

As this is a relief role to support the current team and periods of leave/increased workload, your weekly hours will most likely vary. Therefore we welcome applications from individuals who can offer as much flexibility as possible in terms of their availability to work.
It is essential that you have experience of working effectively with challenging behaviour and utilising best practice in order to successfully diffuse situations to influence a positive outcome.
Strong communication skills, the ability to prioritise your work load, IT skills and an empathetic character are also essential.
You will have experience working with at-risk service users, ideally young persons and complex needs. If you have experience and knowledge of support planning and carrying out risk assessments, this would be particularly advantageous.
As you will be lone working at times, it is essential that you can work effectively and safely on your own using your own initiative.
