Work experience is a great way to get an understanding of a role and see what a working day looks like and we have many programmes to choose from.

We open our doors for work experience every year to look for our stars of the future and this year it will be between April and July. We are the largest train operating company in the UK with more passengers, more people and more trains than anyone else in the country and you can come and spend a week or two in an area of your choice. Make sure you can get to your chosen location within 90 minutes at the most.

Below are the programmes on offer at our Head Offices in Central London and Croydon.

Customer Experience – 1 week programme

The Customer Experience Department champions the customer on behalf of the business and manages customer feedback received through a number of channels. It consists of five key areas: Customer Relations, Social Media, Customer Engagement, Quest Auditing and Accessibility.

Customer Relations - Manage customer contact through traditional channels (email, post, phone) and analyse data to drive business improvement.

Social Media - Manage customer contact received through our social channels.

Customer Engagement - Promote customer input to drive business improvement and run customer focussed events at our stations.

Quest Auditing - Oversee the service quality regime through the auditing of stations and trains.

Accessibility - Meet the needs of our more vulnerable customers and give them the confidence to use our network.

Communications & Marketing - 2 week programme

Work experience in GTR's Marketing and Communications team will provide an exciting, fast-paced introduction into the rail industry, with wide-ranging tasks, from responding to media enquiries and stakeholder questions, to supporting marketing campaigns and creating content for staff newsletters.

Placements are offered in a number of areas of the team - Media Relations, Internal Communications, Marketing and Stakeholder Management. If you have a preference, please include this in your application.

Human Resources – 2 week programme

The Human Resources Department is all about our people; so from the moment you decide you would like to work for our company you will interact with our area of the business. It is an extremely interesting and varied part of the business and one of the keystones in the structure of the company.

Areas that you will experience are: Recruitment, HR Advisors, Employee Engagement, People Development, Payroll, HR Systems.
