Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of submarine combat systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Design Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Design Engineer, you will be working in the Combat Systems Equipment Group North (CSEG North), who are responsible for looking after the design and in-service support of navigation systems for the UK submarine fleet; and also support other CS&S products and design. The main focus of this team is to provide support and change for the existing systems in this area, as well as other design activities.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to join a vibrant and growing part of the business, where you can have an impact on the direction of cutting edge combat systems.
Your main responsibilities as a Design Engineer will involve:
Supporting navigation system design using CAD toolsets, for advanced submarine platforms
Assisting in carrying out system trials on navigational systems
Developing and producing models, drawings and other technical outputs to support navigation system design using CAD toolsets
Communicating with customer representatives, classification authorities, Delegated Design Authorities (DDAs) and suppliers in writing, by telephone and in face-to-face meetings, and with other internal functions to discuss technical issues and problems
Providing and producing calculations as required to justify a proposed course of action
Performing self-verification and undertaking cross-checking of peers and subordinates work to ensure completeness and quality of information
Your skills and qualifications as a Design Engineer:
Experience in the use of CAD tools for design work
HNC level (or equivalent qualification or experience) in an engineering discipline
Knowledge of/experience within a manufacturing/ assembly/commissioning/ testing environment
Product design background

Maritime Submarines – Combat Systems
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. It currently employs approximately 7,700 people, with 500 of these working for Combat Systems across our sites in Barrow-in-Furness, Ash Vale, Broad Oak, Filton, Frimley and Weymouth.
