At the Environment Agency, our Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) team plays a huge part in the work that we do, helping to protect against flooding and minimising the risks caused by any floods that do occur.
Within FCRM sit our Area Operations Teams: Partnership and Strategic Overview, Programme, Asset Performance and Environment & Business. The job-role requires frequent contact with people outside the department in order to provide or obtain information.
Our assets are a diverse range of flood defences, earth banks, walls, pumping stations, flood storage reservoirs, sluices and control structures. They need constant management, maintenance and replacement. Asset Performance (AP) identifies, plans and commissions work to a range of teams to deliver, from contractors to our own workforce. The team assesses our asset conditions, recording and managing that data to create programmes of work. The AP technical office will plan, coordinate and supervise these varied works so that it can be delivered safely, within budget and on time, in accordance with technical specifications, and adhering to environmental best practice.
The team Asset Performance (AP) talks directly with communities, landowners and partners informing and discussing the work we do with them. AP team strives to achieve results by working with other departments, communicating effectively, handling and recording data and managing information databases employing software packages.
Experience/skills required Diploma in relevant vocational training or successfully completed apprenticeship as an electrician or mechanical fitter. Appropriate tertiary education in the form of an Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to NVQ level 3, or ONC/D with recognised provable ‘hands-on’ training, and appropriate experience.
Computer literate in Word, Excel and Outlook.
Prioritise and efficiently manage mechanical and electrical engineering works.
Experience of the planning and coordination and project management of M&E type work in an efficient manner which required liaising with contractors.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to stay organised.
Some experience of control & monitoring systems, and/or drive systems, and/or pumps and/or river level control structures.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings both electrical, mechanical and civil.
HNC (Mechanical or Electrical)
CDM awareness & knowledge.
LOLER / PUWER / Electrical testing & inspection and certification.
General knowledge of electrical control system and mechanical engineering systems.
