This is a fixed term appointment as an Administration Officer on the DIO Portsmouth Land Management Services Team. The responsibilities will include providing an administrative service assisting and supporting surveyors on all outputs to all departments of the MoD The reason why this appointment is for a fixed period is covering behind an individual undertaking an 4 year apprenticeship. The position will then be reviewed and there may be a possibility of permanency at that point. The appointment will therefore run for up to 4 years from the date the successful applicant starts in post.

The position will be based within the Estates Directorate of Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), within the Land Management Services (LMS) department working as part of a busy surveying team. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a background in administration who would filling a role focused on assisting surveyors on outputs to all departments of the MoD and supporting them with all administrative requirements.

This post is covering an individual undertaking an 4 year apprenticeship. The position will then be reviewed and there may be a possibility of permanency at that point.


• Assisting in production of reports, tables, charts and plans for valuation and planning reports (to include undertaking general/internet research on property transactions and provide comparable transactional information).
• Assisting in preparation of standard MoD forms for approval by relevant Estate Surveyor.
• Assisting in preparation of casual use licences.
• Running reports on debt and writing appropriate letters/making phone calls as agreed with Estate Surveyor to achieve settlement.
• Investigation of deed/lease/Ownership issues and on-line planning applications for Estate Surveyors.
• Dealing with general property enquiries regarding MoD properties, arranging inspections/access.
• Such other duties in support of the LMS Section as may from time to time be required. Travelling to local sites will be required.
• Maintaining contact lists, diaries, booking transport.
• Taking phone calls and messages
• Responsibility for locating files/papers required by surveyors.
• Word processing/Data input and administrative support to surveyors.
• Undertake archiving activities.
• Records - keep team records current and up to date
• Finance - Assist finance department with enquiries.


There will be a requirement to travel to local establishments in the course duties.


Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate relevant, suitable experience.


A full driving licence is desirable and a relevant administration qualification.

The Estates Directorate brings together the Acquisitions and Disposals, Land Management Services (LMS), Projects and Estate Optimisation teams. It helps underpin MOD’s operational capability by delivering a comprehensive, strategic and uniquely varied estate surveying service in support of Military outputs, both in the UK and Overseas.
