Applications are invited for an Orthotic Technician Band 3 post based in our Orthotics department and workshop at Broadgreen Hospital. Our service covers the Royal Liverpool Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital and two community sites. We are part of a busy city centre hospital trust treating adults with a wide variety of clinical conditions.
Applicants are required to work with a wide variety of professionals including Orthotists, Podiatrists, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Nurses. Applicants will be required to demonstrate high levels of communication skills and team working.
This role requires knowledge and experience in orthotic goods in particular the manufacturing of insoles. Applicants will be required to demonstrate an ability to complete the following tasks: -
- To manufacture insoles ranging from simple to moulded devices for the Orthotic service within an agreed time frame
- To work alongside Orthotists and podiatry staff on the manufacture of devices for the Orthotics/Podiatry service
- To work closely with Foot and Ankle Consultants to support our outpatient clinics
- To assist the Service Manager in maintaining stock control and ensure relevant paper/or electronic systems are completed for the receipt of prescriptions through to the dispatching of completed goods, liaising with the Orthotic clerical staff
- To ensure health and safety policies are followed in the Orthotic workshop. To maintain a safe, clean and orderly working environment
Experience in a healthcare setting including contact with patients is desirable.
The role requires methodical and accurate way of working and the ability to work from complex technical instructions. Applicants need to be able to work to deadlines and demonstrate good organisation and time management skills. The role requires both practical and problem solving skills. This role involves operating plant grinding equipment and a range of hand tools. Good communication skills are essential to develop relationships with internal and external customers and to foster positive patient outcomes.
The successful applicant will be provided with required training for the role including local procedures and clinical pathways; training on local equipment and systems of working.
Our teams are led by highly skilled senior clinicians and our Therapy Management team. We are all committed to the supervision and development of staff and services. Staff are required to work flexibly. Depending on the future direction of the service, you may be involved in: supporting a 7 day service; extended working days; working on late shifts.
