Due to the expansion of our Rail Operations team, we are looking for professionals with varying levels of experience who have rail industry experience in Rail Planning, Operations and Performance to join us at Mott MacDonald. As part of our team you will act as a rail operations specialist, supporting / leading on the specification and delivery of rail operations capacity and performance modelling exercises in support of rail infrastructure schemes, help inform rail infrastructure design solutions to ensure that they are fit for purpose from an operational perspective and act as a rail operations specialist in a multi-discipline rail planning team. You will assist the team in putting bids together and where necessary, help the client in scoping work to ensure that the end product meets their requirements. We are looking for candidates who have the following: Detailed understanding of railway operating principles; Rail operations specialist with recent experience working for a TOC, FOC or Network Rail; Good understanding of train planning principles; Good understanding of rail industry structure; Good understanding of the performance implications of railway planning and operations; An understanding of rail industry funding and commercial principles; An understanding of project management principles, particularly the Network Rail GRIP process; and Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ideally you will bring to the team your knowledge and experience, which will include some or all of: Knowledge and application of rail industry rules and regulations; Experience and understanding of rail franchise bidding and evaluation; Practical experience in the use of rail industry operational planning packages including RailSys TPS VoyagerPlan Knowledge of rail industry performance management systems and processes including the application and use of: BUGLE PSS / TRUST Schedule 4 / Schedule 8 Practical experience of rolling stock and train crew diagramming; Knowledge of light rail, tramway, and overseas railway operational principles; and Preferably you will be educated to degree level and a Member of a professional organisation such as the Institution of Railway Operators (IRO).
