Stansted Airport Command sits within the Border Force Central Region.

Stansted Airport is currently the fourth largest airport in the country (by passenger numbers), and the largest single terminal airport in the country. To put this in context we handle more passengers per day than a single Heathrow terminal. The airport's owners (Manchester Airport Group) have an ambitious growth plan which will see passenger number increase significantly over the next 3 years. The airport is the main UK base of Ryanair, with a substantial Easyjet operation and an increasing service from a variety of other airlines.

In addition to passenger traffic Stansted handles a significant volume of freight and is a fast parcel hub.

Border Force is responsible for protecting the UK border at Stansted through the delivery of effective immigration and customs controls for passengers and freight.

OSU is a small unit supporting approximately 200 operational staff & the senior management team. Stansted Command is responsible for all immigration and customs activities at the UK border, for travellers arriving from both EEA and non-EEA destinations. There are 17 to 18 million travellers arriving in the UK at Stansted each year. Each OSU team member has core duties but can be required to assist with all aspects of business.

All BF staff are required to wear uniform at work.

Support to the operational delivery in all areas including accommodation, assets, communications, finance, Health and Safety, HR, landing cards, staffing, training, uniforms. Maintaining up-to-date records, arranging and escorting visits. Wide-ranging administrative duties and line management responsibility. The post advertised is responsible for management and support to enable effective operational delivery

The areas covered by the 3 job holders include:

• To contribute as part of the operational support unit to the effective running of the office.

• Email inbox management, prioritising incoming work and highlighting in real time issues that require immediate attention. Commissioning and collating of information where appropriate from across the region to enable robust and timely responses.

• Leave Management: Categorising non-urgent leave request and maintaining leave details for the command. Keeping accurate records and statistics for sick absence.

• Database Management: Updating specialist databases (e.g. TAMS) and conducting audits of shift working patterns and contracts (AHA).

• Information Handling: Preparation of data for weekly planning meetings to ensure business needs and priorities are met.

• Information Preparation: Duty List compilation for operational staff.

• Training Records: Maintaining and updating training records for all staff’s Skills Matrix and Team sheets.

• Training Requirements: Liaison with the Training Liaison Officer (TLO) and other stakeholders to identify training needs of staff and ensure relevant courses are delivered.

• Line manager responsibilities for operational support AOs.

• Provide administrative support to the OSU and Senior Officers as directed.

• Uniform ordering.

• Completing statistics for the SMT.

• Workforce planning and running recruitment campaigns.

• Assisting with port security.

• Accommodation management for both customs and immigration accommodation.

• Queens’s warehouse, arranging collections of seized goods and ensuring accurate records are kept.

• Keeping statistics and compiling returns for senior managers.

• Dealing with passengers complaints.

Key skills required for this role include but these are not exhaustive:

• Good IT skills with significant experience of MS Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and good spreadsheet management.

You may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the grade and within the limits of their skill, competence and training.
