Bristol City Council’s Housing Options Service has a vacant 33.5 hour permanent Housing Advisor post. The post is located within the Homelessness Prevention Team and involves working with citizens who are homeless or threatened with homelessness to ensure early intervention and assistance to prevent and resolve homelessness.
The post is located with the Homelessness Prevention Service, a specialist team dealing with households who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The work is interesting and demanding and involves working face to face with citizens to ensure early intervention and seek housing solutions for both families and single people. The role also involves liaising with a wide range of statutory and voluntary agencies and regular communication with representatives.
The successful candidate will promote and provide an authoritative advisory and information service on initiatives to prevent homelessness, promote a wide range of housing alternatives to temporary accommodation and provide advice to landlords and tenants regarding their statutory rights.
Excellent communication skills (particularly written), including negotiation and problem-solving skills and the ability to present information in a legible and logical manner are important to the role as well as excellent conciliation and mediation skills to achieve effective understanding between groups with potentially conflicting objectives.
