This role is based within the School of Engineering (College of Engineering and Physical Sciences). The School, which is the largest in the College with over 100 members of staff (academic and Professional Services), is a multi-department School comprising the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering. The post-holder will play a key role in providing administrative support as part of the Education Support Hub.
This post offers administrative support to the Taught Programmes teams within the School of Engineering and provides a counter service to the students & academic staff within the range of programmes offered. Based in the School Education Support Hub, the post holder will act as first point of contact for students and academic/other staff and to handle day-to-day routine enquiries and tasks, passing more complex queries to the appropriate person ensuring excellent customer service is provided. The post holder will work within a team of administrators who share responsibility for the activities in hand, but will also have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge within that team.
Educated to A-level or equivalent relevant experience with a minimum of GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English.
Previous experience as an administrator in a customer service environment, ideally within Higher Education.
Ability to use own initiative and prioritise work tasks, whilst working with conflicting demands
Ability to communicate effectively, excellent oral and written skills.
Computer literate, in depth knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook email systems, experience of working with databases and a willingness and enthusiasm to use new technology to support administrative functions.
Able to organise and manage a busy workload and work with minimal supervision with a willingness to resolve situations, as well as knowing when to refer issues to others.
Professional and flexible approach to work: able to reassess priorities and respond positively to changing requirements
Willing to work as part of a team and provide support to colleagues
Good sense of initiative and attention to detail with a methodical approach, able to prioritise workloads and to meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy and to deal with confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
Well-developed organisation abilities, e.g. ability to implement, maintain and initiate changes to office procedures, keep accurate records and produce status or progress reports.
