About the role
The National Archives (TNA) offers expert advice and services to Government departments on managing and preserving information and on the timely transfer of records to TNA under the Public Records Act 1958 (PRA). Many departments are holding large quantities of records which need to be transferred to TNA in order to achieve or maintain compliance with the PRA. This, combined with the implementation of the transition to the 20 Year transfer rule introduced under the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010, has led to a significant increase in the quantity of records that government departments are required to transfer to TNA.
Transfer Advisers are responsible for the end-to-end process of transferring records from departments and/or their third party suppliers to TNA and are central to the delivery of expert advice and guidance covering record transfer and related standards; ensuring that departments understand and implement required procedures for transferring records; and that the records they send to TNA are properly catalogued and prepared for transfer.
We are looking for individuals who are highly committed to delivering a professional service within the public sector. This work requires exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of interpersonal and negotiating skills in working with departmental contacts. This ensures that the integrity of records are maintained and managed during the transfer process and that statutory transfer responsibilities are met in accordance with the PRA and transition to the 20 Year rule.
