Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant to its Community Paediatrics department and invites applications from highly motivated and forward thinking individuals to join a committed and enthusiastic team of professionals.
This role is a replacement 10 PA post, following retirement of the current post holder and forms part of an established team of 5 consultant Community Paediatricians. All community consultants provide services across the breadth of Community Paediatrics as well as taking a clinical lead in a geographical area and participating in the child protection rota. The post holder will act as the Lead for Complex Neurodisability including the under 5’s autism service, physical disability provision and responsibility for a special school. In common with the consultant body, the postholder will deliver a general neurodisability clinic and participate in the child protection rota. He/she will have the opportunity to develop a clinical leadership role in support of the Clinical Lead. The postholder will be required to be flexible in order to meet the needs of the service with opportunities to develop areas of special expertise in line with service priorities. As a result of the merger with the Homerton University Hospital there are new opportunities for joint working and integration across acute and community paediatrics.

The post will be based in the department of Community Paediatrics at Hackney Ark with clinical sessions undertaken at the Hackney Ark and other community venues as required. There will be an average of 8.0 PA of direct clinical care and 2.0 PA allocated for supporting professional activities. As a senior employee of the Trust the post holder will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality, safe health care to patients.

The post-holder will be fully accredited in General Paediatrics and/or Community Child Health. Excellent communication & liaison skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team are essential. The department proactively promotes clinical governance, and the appointee should be able to demonstrate skills in audit, risk management & evidence-based guidelines. As a University hospital, there is a strong commitment to teaching medical students and junior doctors. The post holder is expected to play an active role in all undergraduate and postgraduate training activities.
