JOB TITLE: Medical Laboratory Assistant Band 2.
North East Essex and Suffolk Pathology services are a partnership of Colchester, Ipswich and West Suffolk hospitals that was formed on 5 May 2017. Our vision is to deliver innovative, high-performing pathology that is focused on our customers and delivers high quality and fully compliant services.

This post is based in Blood Sciences at Colchester Hospital. The role involves supporting the technical staff to maintain a safe and effective service. The role will include sample receipt and data entry and after training may include some basic laboratory work.

We are looking for a Healthcare professional who can understand the changing services of pathology and represent the new service going forward.
The post holder must be able to:
1 Demonstrate knowledge of a range of routine and non-routine healthcare science duties equivalent to an NVQ level 3/diploma and GCSE Maths and English (A-C) or equivalent.
2 Willingness to undertake cross training to extend skill set to deliver role with the ability to be flexible and respond to the needs of the service.
3 Good communication skills
4 Demonstrable interpersonal skills – must be able demonstrate working as part of a team and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
5 High level of accuracy and attention to detail
6 Integrity and personal credibility putting the patient first in everything that is undertaken.
Location: Blood Sciences, Colchester Hospital, Colchester.
It is not essential to this role that the applicant has extensive knowledge of pathology as training will be given but some knowledge may be advantageous. The nature of this role requires extensive team working and applicants are required to demonstrate the required personal qualities within their applications.
