Applications are invited for a position to pursue the development through modelling and testing of a solar-cooling technology based on a diffusion absorption refrigeration (DAR) technology. The position involves thermodynamic and thermal performance modelling and testing of DAR systems and of solar-thermal collectors. The specific objectives are, through modelling and experimental testing, to: 1) determine specific design modifications that will improve the operational performance of a solar-DAR system in cooling applications in the Indian climate; 2) contribute to ongoing work to develop experimentally validated models of solar-DAR systems for the purpose of accurately predicting and optimising performance in relevant operating conditions and heat source characteristics. The applicants should have a Masters, or a PhD (or equivalent, or be near to completion) in an area related to thermal management, sustainable/renewable energy technologies and systems, with a background in solar thermal, refrigeration, or ideally absorption refrigeration technologies. The applicants are also expected to have a strong foundation in energy, thermodynamics and heat transfer and an excellent knowledge of similar and related renewable energy technologies.
The start date will preferably before 1 October 2017. Initial appointment is for 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The post is based in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus).
