The Bank’s Information Centre (IC), based in Threadneedle Street, is part of the Secretary’s Department. The primary responsibility of the Department is to support the Court of Directors and other key governing committees of the Bank.
The IC provides a professional information service to all Bank staff. This comprises a research and enquiries service, and the Bank-wide acquisition, management and circulation of published materials in hard copy and online.
The Information Centre provides four core services: online services, such as journals and databases; hard copy services encompassing a relevant and focused collection of books; research services, to assist colleagues in locating the information; and departmental support, a programme of engaged, proactive requirements gathering to ensure the Information Centre is providing current, relevant information.
We are looking for a confident, enthusiastic and self-motivated assistant to fill a short-term vacancy in the Bank's Information Centre team. The role is available for six months and offers the opportunity to work as part of a small team carrying out general enquiry desk work and some more in-depth searches. The role also includes collection management work (including cataloguing and collection review), and a range or specialist and generalist administrative tasks which contribute to the efficient operation of the Information Centre.
The Information Assistant will carry out a range of tasks which contribute to the efficient operation of the Information Centre. They will work with the IC team in responding to search requests on specific topics and undertake general enquiry work. Information requests can include press and company searches and searches for brokers’ reports.
The work also includes circulation of books and journals, responding to book and article requests, and requesting logins for online sources. The job holder will undertake collection management work including updating journal catalogue records, book ordering, cataloguing and processing, collection review (acquisition/weeding), arranging disposal of weeded material, shelving and shelf-tidying, checking in and circulating journals, and administering the return of inter-library loans.
The job holder will maintain the IC’s user information for staff joining, moving or leaving the organisation. They will also assist with, and, with experience, take the lead on all aspects of chasing overdue material on loan to IC users. On a weekly basis they will check books held on reserve at the enquiry desk and return uncollected items to the shelves. They will administer the Departmental Liaison Officer spread-sheet ensuring that team members are making progress with their departmental liaison responsibilities.
Training will be provided, as required, on the use of the library management system, and on key resources which provide e-journals, financial information, and news services.

Good general IT knowledge (especially Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel)
