Applications are invited for a full-time, permanent post at the Reader Services Desk in the Entrance Hall of the main University Library. The Reader Services Desk team is part of the Reader Services Division. Working under the supervision of the Team Leader, the successful applicant will be assisting in the provision of high quality library services in a busy, customer-focussed environment.
This post in the Reader Services Desk team can be assigned to any aspect of the team's work. The Reader Services Desk is the main reception point for all visitors to the Library and the Milstein Exhibition Centre, receiving over 600 visits per day, and is usually the first point of contact for telephone enquiries.
Duties will include providing a welcoming first point of contact to the Library's readers and visitors; the accurate operation of the Library's automated system to carry out all aspects of circulation services; staffing Reader Registration on a rota basis; assisting in the induction, training and supervision of staff; documenting procedures and ensuring effective internal communication; updating library guides and webpages; dealing with general enquiries; and handling the movement of books across the Library by sorting and shelving. Involvement in outreach activities will also form part of the post's duties.
Applicants should be user-focused and able to provide a friendly and efficient service at all times. This post requires excellent interpersonal and IT skills; dedication; flexibility; and the ability to work unsupervised as well as part of a team. Regular lunch, evening and Saturday duties are required.
