About the role

Connect are now looking for a well-organised and conscientious Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) Team Leader (TL) to deliver quality clinical care of MSK conditions for patients presenting in Community Services. We are looking for someone who can work as an autonomous practitioner and deliver a quality clinical service meeting the clinical and commercial needs of the MSK services.

The role is about the consistent delivery of quality clinical management of MSK conditions for the patients presenting to the intermediate care service. You’ll strive for clinical excellence in the management of MSK problems to ensure optimal outcomes for patients. You will support the Service Manager in providing leadership and motivation to the team to facilitate the achievement of personal and commercial objectives and targets.

Working with the Service Manager and Referral Management Centre (RMC) TL you will plan and ensure efficient operational delivery of allocated services and contribute to the development of marketing initiatives and their implementation

Whilst undertaking comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of patients with a wide variety of physical and emotional needs, you must formulate, deliver, review and progress individual treatment programmes and ensure effective treatment, specialist advice and timely discharge is achieved.

Developing a positive and dynamic culture, you must foster productive relationships with key stakeholders such as local Consultants, GP’s and corporate client sites and provide support and training to junior staff and Physiotherapy students .

You will be expected to utilise advanced MSK expertise to function as APP managing a complex clinical caseload within the MSK Services. This includes;

  • performing the triage of orthopaedic referrals directing the patient into the appropriate care service.
  • the management of patients that would have traditionally been referred into secondary care orthopaedic services with spinal and peripheral problems and involves the use of advanced decision-making and clinical reasoning skills to perform clinical interventions that may fall outside the normal scope of physiotherapy practice.
  • the practice of medical diagnosis within the orthopaedic speciality, specialist investigation and limited prescribing which are outside the scope of physiotherapy practice.
  • independent decision making regarding the clinical diagnosis and future clinical management of presenting patients through the assimilation of clinical assessment and the requesting and interpretation of the results of specific medical investigations such as X rays, MRI, USS and pathology tests.
  • Implementation of relevant policies and procedures
  • Recruitment and selection of new staff
  • Manage Induction and support with ongoing learning and development activities.
  • To provide clinical supervision and audit for staff in line with governance framework and manage performance effectively

From a clinical perspective, the successful candidate will preferably be educated to Masters level in the field of MSK care and be able to provide a highly specialised source of expertise within the team. They will have a strong track record of service delivery, leadership and teaching in this arena and be expected to inspire and contribute to clinical development of colleagues

The TL role focusses on the consistent delivery of a quality clinical service and meeting the associated operational targets. To achieve this, the individual will need to demonstrate motivational leadership of their teams, and sound effective management strategies combined with a strong patient focus. They will need to be highly self-motivated and achievement orientated.

You must demonstrate clinical excellence and be competent at developing this in others. They must be commercially focused and committed to delivering on KPIs and financial performance targets.

You will need to be organised, consistent and lead by example. Attention to detail and management style will be factors influencing success. Excellent communication skills, a strong customer focus and a commitment to the development of quality and service as a market differential and business ethos are also essential.

You will be well organised, conscientious and capable of managing the varied and often challenging demands of a complex caseload. You will need to proficient and adaptable with IT be positive, constructive and approachable and carry out tasks with fairness and with integrity always.
