An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new role of post-doctoral Research Associate in Sensing in the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The main purpose of the role will be to focus on development of innovative technologies for peri-operative diagnosis and sensing including biophotonics, confocal imaging, mass-spectral tissue analysis, and sepsis detection sensors.
The NIHR Imperial BRC harnesses the scientific power of Imperial College London, the only UK University devoted wholly to science, engineering, business and medicine, and the UKs largest group of research-intensive hospitals in Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The BRC supports the infrastructure to promote and facilitate the flow of research from laboratory bench to patient bedside as effectively and efficiently as possible.
The post holder will be responsible for developing their research area and new research ideas to achieve the wider aims of the Surgery and Surgical Technology Theme. They will be expected to u ndertake and deliver high quality research that is published in high impact journals and presented at local, national and international meetings. They will also be expected to write reports for research sponsors and assist with supervision of post-graduate and undergraduate students.
A PhD in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or related discipline is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to apply for this role. Knowledge and experience in using and developing optical, electric and spectroscopic sensor technologies is essential in addition to knowledge of experimental design principles and statistical procedures.
The post is full time, fixed term for one year in the first instance.
