The School of Natural and Social Sciences at University of Gloucestershire is seeking to appoint a part-time Postgraduate Assistant to a fixed term post in Psychology.
The successful candidate will hold a first class or high upper second class undergraduate degree, and will have, or be eligible for, Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS). Possession of a Master’s degree is also desirable.
The main responsibilities of the Postgraduate Assistant will be: to support lecturing staff during lectures and practical sessions; to deliver some practical sessions and seminars based on material provided by lecturing staff; and to assist with student assessment. Strong skills in research methods (qualitative or quantitative) will be a particular asset. Depending on experience and interest, the Postgraduate Assistant could contribute to the development of teaching materials including preparation of online learning resources, laboratory exercises, and activities to be used during recruitment and outreach events. They would also be expected to undertake some training to support development of their teaching skills.
For a post holder interested in undertaking a MPhil/PhD in Psychology alongside their responsibilities in the 0.5 FTE Postgraduate Assistant role, the School will pay postgraduate research fees for part-time enrolment over three years. This benefit is subject to continuing employment in post, and satisfactory progress on the research degree.
This position is available for a start in February/March 2018. On average the post holder will work 2.5 days a week but this will vary across the year according to teaching and assessment commitments, with a heavier load during main periods of teaching and assessment, to be agreed in discussion with the line manager.
Psychological Sciences is based within the School of Natural and Social Sciences, located on our attractive Francis Close Hall campus in Cheltenham.
