JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Business Development – Regional is a leader in the development and execution of the business plan and new business strategy for the Solutions business with additional responsibility for driving growth across the entire Vertiv portfolio. They will have extensive experience and close connections throughout the mission critical industry and are viewed as an industry expert by customers, partners, analysts, and media. They will work with a regional team of indirect personnel within sales, marketing, service, and operations to successfully grow Vertiv’s business, share of mind and wallet, reputation, brand, and market reach. Additionally, the regional executive leader will interface with other elements of the Vertiv organization to include in region solution sales, in region product management, and in region Vertiv senior leadership. They must have strong research and analytical skills to identify emerging opportunities in the current marketplace and the pathways to adjacent and new markets.
This Director has strong leadership qualities, a demonstrated history of business success and excellent business acumen to complement their communication skills. The Director Business Development is expected to perform many vital functions to grow the company’s revenue and profitability including but not limited to: building and maintaining key client relationships, be a recognized technology evangelist, corporate spokesperson, identifying opportunities and creating pathways to clients within current industry sectors, explore adjacent space for near-term growth, and roadmap to emerging applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (within the Region unless otherwise noted)

  • Expand customer base and increase share of profitable solutions sales to existing customers headquartered and/or operating within assigned region
  • Develop and maintain high-profile external relationships within client base, professional organizations, strategic partners, media, analysts, etc. (public relations presence). With the Vice President Business Development act as the voice of Vertiv
  • Identify, design, develop and implement market-driven strategies to achieve revenue goals and the company’s mission
  • Oversee marketing, sales, and partner channel programs / activities that increase the company's revenues, expand the customer base and channels, and extend our business to new markets, segments, and applications
  • Identify potential strategic partners, alliances and relationships to expand core product lines or bring new product lines to the organization – regionally and global
  • Promote a customer-oriented focus and advocate consultative customer relationships
  • Act as primary contact for internal and external constituents
  • Collaborate with regional sales management to drive appropriate customer priorities and deliverables
  • Collaborate with regional marketing leadership to review marketing plans and provide insight and resource support for regional / local messaging and product planning process

REGIONAL COORDINATION WITH GLOBAL FUNCTIONAL LEADERS
  • With the Vice President Business Development - create and manage quarterly report of business development activity, opportunity funnel, trends, and market insights.
  • Participate in staff level discussions around all initiatives for business transformation, the identification and development of new markets, and related activities to support the Annual Operating Plan.
  • Ensure regional aspects and nuances are considered in all staff level initiatives and directives to ensure global success with regional details represented.
  • Collaborate and interact with regional sales guidance to drive appropriate customer priorities and deliverables
  • Collaborate and interact with global and regional marketing leadership to review marketing plans and provide insight and resource support for regional aspects of the global messaging and product planning process as relates to the Solutions portfolio – current and future requirements

SOLUTIONS EXECUTIVE STAFF PARTICIPATION
  • Create and present a quarterly region-specific business review of all in region generated, installed, and supported business.
  • Participate in staff level discussions around all initiatives for business improvement, transformation, and steady-state business activities to support the Annual Operating Plan.
  • Ensure regional aspects and nuances are considered in all staff level initiatives and directives to ensure global success with regional details represented.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a working relationship with the global and regional Vertiv business units in support of all product, cost, design, manufacturing, deployment, and service needs of the region of responsibility.

POSITION ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Domestic and international travel required; approx. 25-50%.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven leadership skills as a sales / business development executive within the technology, capital goods, electrical / electronic industries selling directly to large end-users
  • Demonstrated track record of building business within existing markets and expanding share of mind and wallet with existing cliental
  • Successful track record of identifying, developing, and growing new markets and applications for products and/or services through innovative business models, product / service customization, strategic partner collaboration, and/or system integration
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Keen interpersonal and customer relations skills
  • Thought leader capable of representing Vertiv and Solutions in public forums, social media, print and electronic communications, and other venues

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science (Engineering preferred)
  • Masters of Business Administration (preferred)
  • At least 10 years work experience in the data center and/or related industry including cross-functional roles in technology development and project management
  • Demonstrated industry association experience & conference presentations
