Emergency Medicine Clinical Fellow Split Role 12 months
Either at CT1-3 or ST4-6 level
Fixed-term 12 months post (with possible extension)
£30,605 - £48,123 per annum (depending on experience) with a 50% payment supplement
This post gives you the opportunity to spend time working in our friendly and supportive Emergency Department alongside dedicated time to develop an interest. This could include (but is not limited to) Paediatric EM, quality improvement and management, medical education and simulation, O&G, sports and exercise medicine or medical research. This component would form up to 20% of the post. If you prefer you could work part-time, or take time out during the year. This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your experience and your c.v., while balancing your time and enjoying a sustainable working pattern.
This post is at Homerton University Hospital, in Hackney, East London; an exciting and challenging place with a diverse and richly multicultural population. We have been rated as the first ‘Outstanding’ Emergency Department following our CQC inspection and we are looking to expand both Junior and Senior Clinical Fellow teams. We have an excellent record of getting doctors in non-training posts into training, and in supporting clinical fellows in RCEM examinations and towards CESR-route entry to the specialist register for Emergency Medicine.
The Emergency Department saw over 120,000 new patients in 2015/16; over 28,000 children were seen in the Children’s Assessment Area (CEA). There is consultant shop floor presence 14 hours a day Monday to Friday and 9 hours at weekends. The post holder will either join the 9-person senior doctor rota or the core trainee rota of ST1-3s and junior clinical fellows, as experience dictates. The department also has 8 FY2s, and medical students from Barts and the London Medical School. There is an ENP-led Minor Injuries Unit and a GP-led Primary and Urgent Care Centre integrated into the department.
The Homerton has a state of the art Simulation suite with good opportunities for doctors in the Emergency Department to teach and to learn.
Our Children’s Emergency Area has both an Emergency Paediatrician and a Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant. We run regular review clinics for adult and paediatric patients, and a dedicated weekly consultant led hand clinic.
Homerton University Hospital is a Foundation Trust and teaching hospital in East London. It is a Trauma Unit within the North East London Trauma Network and was the designated hospital for the 2012 Olympic Games. It is within walking distance to Homerton and Hackney Central Overground stations, with easy access to major transport links.
