The principle purpose of the role is to plan, direct and control all operational activities within a given port in order to achieve business goals, profit and operational effectiveness targets.
To draw upon specialist help from the Functional Teams as required and to ensure that the Function teams and Cluster MD are kept informed about the operation in the port.
The Port Manager is responsible for defining local business objectives in alignment with Cluster Level Strategy. Furthermore, the Port Manager leads and engages the organisation both onshore and offshore. This is pivotal in order for the port to perform in a competitive and challenges towage market. Being able to create strong followership for a large workforce is crucial for the port and to succeed in driving a positive industrial relations outcomes.
Based on the nature of the Port the role is responsible for actively managing the reputation of locally with a number of external and internal stakeholders e.g. customers, agencies, port authorities and functional teams.
The success of the role is realised when below responsibilities are deployed in alignment with the identified business objectives:
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Financial responsibilities In conjunction with Cluster MD prepare budgets and financial plans for the port
- To monitor and control the port operating budget to ensure that all resources are deployed effectively and that the port is running at optimal operational efficiency. To report back on a regular basis on the ports performance to key stakeholders.
Safety Proactively support commitment to safety, ensuring that all operations are risk assessed, adequately resourced and all appropriate procedures as defined in HMS, permits and licences are in place. Ensure compliance with all health safety environmental and regulatory demands. Manage and be accountable for the deployment of the requirements of the HMS system in the port. Ensure that in liaison with Marine Standards all accidents are fully investigated and incident reports prepared.
People Manage and be accountable for the crews on a daily basis within the operation, including the overall management of the roster through the Operators, the performance and attendance of all crew and shorestaff. Review the roster on a regular basis to ensure that the Company is getting the best possible utilisation of crews. Work with the Crewing Manager to recruit people with the relevant skills, qualifications and attributes to the business. Working with the Compliance Officer in HR to ensure that all crews have up to date certification Supported by HR manage the relationship with the local union branch, holding regular consultation meetings and resolving any disputes that may arise.
- Have a good understanding of HR policies and processes and to handle disciplinary and grievance cases. Drive up employee engagement through effective day to day management of our people and ensuring that people are kept informed of what is happening in the business.
- Previous management experience within an operational environment PNL ownership and successful past deliveries in similar environment Thorough understanding of health and safety/Marine Standards requirements Experience of working with and managing budgets Understanding how to drive engagement and culture A Marine qualification and previous marine experience.
