Research Staff Member Machine Learning Jobs Vacancy at Ibm Warrington Jobs Details:

Job Description
From landing the first astronauts on the moon to the discovery of fractals, from the technology behind laser surgery to building the first cognitive system to win the Jeopardy! competition, IBM has been the spark of the technology revolutions that have shaped our world today.

We are looking for ambitious researchers to join the IBM Research UK presence focusing on the emerging area of Data-Centric Cognitive Systems. IBM research represents one of the largest industrial research presences worldwide, with over 3,000 researchers undertaking research in a broad spectrum of application areas. IBM Research UK is based within the STFC Hartree Centre, in Daresbury, with the aim of transforming the competitiveness of UK industry by accelerating the adoption of High Performance Computing, Big Data and Cognitive technologies. Application areas include high accuracy formulation in consumer goods, manufacturing challenges and life sciences projects such as precision agriculture, anti-microbial surfaces and genomics. The use of data to improve and enrich modelling, simulation and industrial decision making is a truly enabling technology, and we are building a team aimed at applying state of the art machine learning methodology to drive industrial impact.

The scope of the work is twofold; the application of existing technologies to novel areas in the Physical and Life Sciences, and the adaptation and improvement of existing art to scale and improve the performance in the context of High Performance Computing. The scope of application in this position is very broad, from designing new mechanical devices, through applications in the chemical sector, to the design of new anti-microbial peptides.

A successful candidate will have knowledge of, and experience in, at least two of the following topics:

  • Developing deep neural network models for a variety of tasks
  • Generative Models such as generative adversarial networks
  • Bayesian optimization
Since the research role includes the acceleration and scale-out of emerging machine learning workloads from science and engineering, it would be desirable for the candidate to demonstrate the experience of leveraging GPUs and other high-performance architectural support. The candidate should also have familiarity with some of the following topics:
Deep learning frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, Torch, Theano) • Distributed computing
  • High performance computing paradigms (MPI, OpenMP)
  • GPU acceleration (e.g. CUDA, OpenACC etc)
The successful candidate will be an independent thinker, able to see opportunities for the application of novel methodologies to improve the time to insight for scientific problems, particularly those with industrial relevance.
The ability to work well as part of a team is also an essential characteristic of a successful candidate. IBM Research UK interacts strongly with other IBM Research labs worldwide, and the candidate would be expected to maintain relationships and collaborations with our global lab network.

The World is Our Laboratory: No matter where discovery takes place, IBM researchers push the boundaries of science, technology and business to make the world work better. IBM Research is a global community of forward-thinkers working towards a common goal: progress. Desired Skills and Experience
PhD/DPhil in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or similar disciplines
Proven experience in managing and working in collaborative research programs
Knowledge relating to scientific publications in machine learning
or a track record of scientific publications in machine learning
