Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is currently recruiting for On-Call Firefighters at the following stations:
Burnham on Sea
Exeter Danes Castle
Ottery St Mary

Retained On-call Firefighters come from a variety of backgrounds – they could be self-employed, full time parents, trades people, administrators or shopkeepers with a common interest to support and keep their community safe.
You will be providing a part time service, responding to fire and emergency calls in the same way as Wholetime Firefighters. Incidents can range from attending fires, floods, road traffic accidents, chemical spills, and talking to your community about fire prevention.
Firefighters may be called out a couple of times a week for may be one or two hours during the day, evenings or weekend. You decide the hours when you are available - all we ask is for you to be flexible. The minimum hour’s contract is 63 hours per week (part cover) and 84 hours per week (full cover).

There are no qualifications but you must be:
- Aged 18 or over
- Able to respond from home/work within 5 minutes
- Physically and medically fit with good eyesight and hearing
- Prepared for the commitment and discipline of being a Firefighter
- Preferably hold a full UK driving licence
Full Cover 84 hour contract
Trainee rates - £2246 pa
Development rates - £2339 pa
Competent rates - £2993 pa
Part Cover 63 hour contract
Trainee rates - £1684 pa
Development rates - £1754 pa
Competent rates - £2244 pa
Plus an hourly rate for training and for each call attended.
