We are seeking a Consultant Medical Microbiologist to join an enthusiastic and clinically focussed team of 8 consultant microbiologists (including this vacancy) working for Pathology at Wigan and Salford (PAWS). This is a new post, which will be based initially at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, a University Teaching Trust. The microbiologists at Salford Royal run a well-developed outpatient and home parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) service and participate in a multidisciplinary diabetic foot clinic. Microbiology services are provided to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, a specialist cancer hospital. The department has a strong educational tradition and provides supervision for Specialty Trainees. There is a joint on call service with the microbiology consultants based at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.
Salford Royal, together with Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, forms the Northern Care Alliance, with central service laboratories at the Salford Royal and Royal Oldham sites. Pennine Acute Hospitals employs a further 5 consultants in microbiology/virology and also provides supervision for Specialty Trainees. It is anticipated that in the future, duties could include work based at any of the sites within the network.
The post is suitable for applicants holding a CCT or equivalent in Medical Microbiology, with or without a CCT in Infectious Diseases.
