Launch an exciting career by joining our Airbus Apprenticeship programme! Our Apprentices receive second to none training, gaining the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to enable you to make an immediate contribution when you enter the workforce.

An Airbus Craft Apprenticeship offers you the opportunity to gain qualifications with no fees, whilst acquiring new skills through vocational training, and a regular salary.

If you like the idea of working with machinery, this 38 month programme will lead you to becoming a Skilled Machinist working on CNC machines, manufacturing skin panels and stringers for various Airbus Commercial Aircraft. As well as this working experience, you will gain a Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacture.

As a Craft Apprentices on the Machining programme you will study at Coleg Cambria (Wrexham Campus) to achieve your qualifications, and your industry based work takes place at our world leading aircraft manufacturer site in Broughton, (near Chester) North Wales.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your first year on the Machining Craft Apprenticeship programme will be spent at college completing the Level 2 aspect of the course; learning about engineering operations, and achieving a number of national diploma units.

Our Machining Craft Apprentices then go on to join a skilled Airbus team, working within the machining areas to allow you to gain all the relevant skills to complete your qualifications, whilst attending college on a day release programme alongside.

During your time in the Airbus factory, Machining Craft Apprentices are involved in the manufacture of wing skins, panels and stringers for various Airbus aircraft, through a variety of techniques including:

  • Following bespoke set up sheet instructions to complete a machining process
  • Use of stringer machining and long bed milling machining practices, including the loading and locating of billets, and unloading finished components.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.

Required skills

In order to be eligible for this exciting apprenticeship opportunity, you must have a minimum of:

  • Five GCSEs at Grade C or 4, which must include Maths, English Language and Science (either core and additional / double award, or Physics if Science was taken as individual subjects).

For the remaining two GCSEs, we will also consider alternative qualifications, such as Engineering BTEC Level 2, Engineering Diploma, Principle Learning, PEO Level 2 and Pathways to Apprenticeships.
