A new and exciting opportunity has been created for a professional, enthusiastic and highly motivated Personal Assistant who will provide proactive support to the Director of Secondary Education. Working with wider central team departments, this is a highly visible and demanding role in the Federation which encompasses support to our Governance Team and the handling of important, high profile internal and external communications.

About the role:

As a rapidly growing Multi Academy Trust educating some 32,000 students, the Federation central team is responsible for supporting the ongoing demands of 47 primary and secondary academies around London. The Secondary Director oversees 26 of these academies and leads a team of senior professionals providing guidance and challenge as the Federation continues to grow.

The post is primarily office based at our head office in East Croydon, but will involve visits to academies. It is a fast paced, varied and interesting position which offers an excellent first step into education management, and would suit anyone who has career aspirations in the sector. There is huge scope and potential for the successful candidate, and a unique opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of senior level education management, policy, safeguarding and governance.

About you:

You should be highly driven and articulate with the ability to prioritise tasks and secure commitment quickly from senior stakeholders, helping to embed a culture of constant excellence which puts learning first. Ideally, you should have some industry experience or exposure to working for senior management, but you must have proven organisational skills and extensive experience in prioritising heavy workloads whilst remaining calm under pressure.

What we are looking for:

  • The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, both orally and written communication

  • The ability to manage your own time effectively and prioritise work in a demanding environment
  • To be a professional who understands the need for discretion and confidentiality
  • Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Experience in similar field, i.e. Education Management, Public or Government services
  • Fast thinking, proactive and confident working unsupervised using own initiative
  • Strong attention to detail and high levels of integrity
  • The ability to work effectively within a team.

As an employee with the Harris Federation, you will receive a generous benefits package, including performance and loyalty bonus, pension scheme (LGPS), Harris wellbeing cash plan and additional Harris benefits.

Why work for the Harris Federation?

The Harris Federation is a top performing Multi Academy Trust with an established track record in school improvement, and at the forefront of developing exceptional practitioners and senior leaders. The Federation provides a highly supportive network of Academies, Executives Leaders, Principals and mentors to help develop and progress your career.

Professional development and collaboration are key to our success, and we provide top quality training at every level from Beginner Teachers to Executive Leaders. We invest in our staff with coaching, mentoring, and a wide range of training programmes, delivered by our Teaching School Alliance. Two Harris academies hold Teaching School status and Harris also runs the highly successful London Thames Maths Hub, as well as working in partnership with a number of external organisations.

The Harris Federation offers exceptional opportunities for personal and professional development. No matter what stage you are at or what job you do, we will support and develop your skills, with our Teaching School delivering outstanding courses for staff at every level, including NPQML, NPQSL, NPQH and beyond.

Harris is a Federation and not a chain; each academy is different, reflecting the particular aspirations and leadership style of its Principal. All of our primary and secondary academies are rated 'Good' or 'Outstanding' by Ofsted and we are recognised for transforming the life chances of the children that we educate.

We look for talented individuals who want to help transform education in London, and create exceptional places of learning.

Please note: academies may hold interviews as and when applications are received, and this job may be withdrawn at any point without notice. You will still be able to add information until the closing date, but you will not be able to submit your application. With this in mind, you are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Harris academies are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check will be completed for all applicants. In line with our commitments to safeguarding, the Harris Federation uses preferred agencies and is unable to work with any agencies where Terms of Business have not been agreed by both parties prior to an engagement.
