The Teaching & Learning Support Office (TLSO) is within the Directorate for the Student Experience (DSE) and manages the implementation of institutional strategy for excellence in teaching and learning and the Manchester student experience. We work closely with the Vice-President (Teaching, Learning and Students), Associate Vice-Presidents, and with Faculties, Schools and other administrative offices. We also provide advice, support, and project management for strategic institutional projects related to teaching, learning and the student experience. The Teaching & Learning Manager (Student Success and Engagement) role is a new post which has been designed to develop projects and implement strategies for encouraging student engagement and success, from all student groups, with a focus on closing attainment gaps, improving retention and widening participation. The role will also be required to manage a team of staff, committed to the development of a variety of opportunities for students to engage with co-curricular activity, curriculum development and the wider University community.
The successful candidate will have experience of leadership in Higher Education, including the management of staff and resources, as well as significant experience of either Student Engagement and/or retention and attainment, with an understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by different groups of students. They will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence staff and students alike.
