Applications are invited from anyone who is interested in joining our excellent team in the Cellular Pathology Department. The Histology laboratory is based at University Hospital and provides diagnostic pathology for the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services.
Biomedical Assistants provide a back-up service for the technical staff. Their role involves handling and processing biopsy and other tissue samples from patients, including microtomy of tissue samples; filing and retrieving new and archive material, equipment cleaning and other general laboratory work. Your duties would also include entering information onto the laboratory computer system.
You should have a good general education, with numeracy and literacy skills, as well as some experience of working with computers. You should be able to cope with working to deadlines in a very busy environment.
Any relevant experience of hospital work would be desirable, but not essential, as all necessary training will be provided.
The Cellular Pathology service is a rapidly expanding part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Network, which is based on the hospital sites at Coventry (University Hospital), Nuneaton (George Eliot Hospital) and Warwick (South Warwickshire Hospital). It offers a comprehensive range of Pathology services to a population of approximately 1 million Coventry and Warwickshire residents and has a close relationship with the Medical school at Warwick University.
