Job Description

Providing 3rd Line Messaging Support to a range of customers in accordance with defined standards and agreed SLAs

Providing expert Messaging operational support to over twenty customers as part of a managed service agreement.

To take responsibility for the delivery and support of Messaging services delivered from the MS AHS Tower to a number of classified large, medium or small customers, or provide assistance to senior members of the team across a number of accounts. Responsibility includes management and assurance that quality services are delivered from the Tower to meet the agreed Operating level service and KPI achievement.

The Messaging Technical Specialists will be expected to rectify faults, problems, manage changes to meet and exceed customer SLA requirements.

The role may include participation in an out of hours on-call rota.

The range of activities and tasks to be undertaken by the Technical Specialist include:

  • Investigate and resolve technical incidents and problems associated with the teams’ customer services. This will involve ensuring that incidents and problems are progressed in accordance with the SLA, OLA and quality standards. Incidents and problems should be identified quickly and accurately and resolved in a timely, structured and logical way. Escalate any issues that cannot be resolved to the Services or Customer Lead.
  • Plan and undertake changes to software/hardware as agreed with the client (in accordance with ITIL change management process)
  • The testing and implementation of software and associated products in conjunction with application providers
  • Proactive Patch Management for all supported systems including developing & applying a regular patching policy.
  • Capacity Management, Performance Analysis & System Tuning - Performance data collection & reporting with recommendation of hardware or software alterations to improve systems performance as an on-going exercise.
  • Security Administration - Creating, Deleting & Altering profiles, ensuring that the security strategy in place is adhered to, and reporting any security breaches.
  • The definition or amendments to monitoring rules and thresholds to ensure systems are correctly monitored.
  • Prepare and produce documentation in accordance with Atos and quality processes and standards
  • Promote automation by the use of tools and scripts to ensure proactive delivery of service in an effective and efficient manner. Create processes to enable support teams to deal with incidents, problems and changes in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Liaison with software and hardware suppliers
  • Assess user requirements and formulate technical specifications that are cost effective and accurately meet the clients identified needs
  • Contribute to the implementation of new and modified systems in conjunction with clients to achieve identified benefits
  • Ensure privileged access to customer computer systems is used in a professional manner and the integrity of the customer computer systems and the data held therein, is maintained and not misused.
  • Provide technical input to internal project teams, both within and outside own functional area Maintain up to date awareness of developments in the IT industry and identify how appropriate ones could be applied to client organisations
  • Ability to build rapport with client representatives, Service Managers and Account Development Managers in order to identify and develop new opportunities
  • Undertake project management, quality assurance and leadership responsibilities for projects when required
  • Use appropriate methods to provide coaching to junior staff within the area and help with the induction of new recruits
  • Install and test application software and associated products in conjunction with the Technical Design Architects and application providers to ensure that each element of a project performs to specification.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new and modified systems in conjunction with clients to achieve identified benefits
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of a standard methodology for the planning and installation of infrastructure
  • Prepare and produce systems documentation in accordance with Atos and ISO9001 or other quality definitions policies and procedures
  • Contribute technical support on projects to enhance systems within project team
  • Provide technical input to internal project teams, both within and outside own functional area
  • Effectively monitor specific infrastructure services and identify improvements and preventative maintenance interventions.

This position is based in Westlakes, Cumbria.

Core working hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm.

Please note that flexibility is required regarding working out of hours and occasionally at weekends to cover essential system maintenance and support.

Transferable skills and experience suitable for this opening:

  • Previous experience in a 3rd line support in an Exchange based messaging support systems working to ITIL standards using Incident / Problem management ticketing tools
  • Either of the following Microsoft Certifications (or more recent equivalent certification):
    • MSCE Windows 2000/2003
    • MCP MS Exchange 2000/2003/2007/2010/2013
  • Must be able to undergo and successfully gain SC level security clearance.
  • For all technologies mentioned an expert level of competency is required with a proven track record of providing 3rd line support to a large customer base:
    • Ability to deal with complex issues/potential escalations with minimal
    • Messaging desktop clients, e.g. Outlook
    • Helpdesk/problem control and management services
    • Support of Microsoft Exchange 2003/2010/2013 standalone and clustered
    • Experience and support of AV software products (Trend Micro Scanmail), Sophos A/V, Groupshield etc.)
    • Support of SMTP Gateways (Exchange, MailSweeper etc.)
    • Experience and support of Exchange FAX Solutions
    • E-mail archiving tools, e.g. Enterprise Vault, SourceOne
    • Security and SPAM protection products e.g. IronPort
    • Blackberry BES support and services
    • Activsync solutions and products e.g. Good Technology

  • Involvement in projects, having demonstrated an ability to provide sound input into a specific technical area – Creation of HLD, LLD and implementation and testing plans
