We are looking for an enthusiastic Computer Technician with the ability to provide excellent customer service. You will be an
integral member of the Department’s existing Technical Support team. Reporting to the Departmental Technical Manager,
you will provide hardware and software support to staff, researchers and students across Windows and Linux systems with a
particular strength in Apple systems because approximately 40% of the desktops and laptops, in Computer Science, are
You will also implement information security and encryption policies, manage loanable equipment, specify and purchase
Departmental equipment, create and administer electronic records and databases and share responsibility for assessing and
maintaining stocks of spare machines, components and peripherals.
A significant part of this role is the supervision of Faculty of Engineering trainees, during their three-month placements in
Computer Science, so being able to manage trainee staff by delegating a wide range of administrative and technical tasks is
essential. In addition, you will maintain an awareness and commitment to the relevant health and safety rules and regulations
and attend all required safety and training courses.
You will be educated to degree level in a scientific or numeric discipline (or equivalent experience) and have a minimum of 2
years’ experience in an IT support role or a Microsoft/Apple desktop system certification.
